Senators Shehu Sani and Suleiman Hunkuyi were allegedly attacked on Sunday at the secretariat of the Kaduna chapter of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ). Nasir el-Rufai, governor of the state, had ordered an investigation. Sani and Hunkuyi represent Kaduna central and north at the upper legislative chamber, respectively. They had just begun to address journalists on the state’s party congresses which took place on Saturday when suspected thugs stormed the secretariat. Journalists were beaten in the process as chairs and other furniture were thrown into various directions. A detachment of police officers was said to have brought the situation under control. Reacting to the incident on his Facebook page, Sani said the attack was aided by an unnamed divisional police officer. “The invasion of the Kaduna NUJ secretariat by sponsored armed thugs during our press conference was an attempt to kill us in order to silence us.The attack was aided by a police DPO,” the statement read....

POWERFUL multiple explosions rock Maiduguri on Tuesday night, a day after 12 persons were killed by suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers. At least six powerful explosions occurred between 10:45 and 11:00 PM. About four explosives were detonated simultaneously while two other powerful sounds were also heard some 15 minutes later. Unlike the previous explosions, the current blast has a wide-range sound effect, sending its powerful sounds to many parts of the metropolis, forcing roofs to shake. It is not clear where the blast occurred yet and efforts to get the details of the blasts were not successful as none of the official security spokespersons was available for comments. However, a security source told the News Agency of Nigeria that soldiers had fired an artillery at a convoy of suspected Boko Haram insurgents who were trying to attack the city which caused series of explosions.
